SB is where the EN ISO 20345 ladder starts. It guarantees the one thing every safety shoe must have, a toecap tested to a 200 joule impact and a 15 kilonewton compression, plus the basic requirements for the upper, sole and construction. It does not promise an antistatic build, an energy-absorbing heel or a midsole. That makes SB the right pick when the risk is dropped or rolling objects and nothing else, and the wrong pick when a site spec asks for S1 or above. Each style below states its own rating on its page.
A 200 joule toecap, in steel, aluminium or composite, tested for impact and compression, on footwear that meets the standard's basic construction requirements. We list 53 SB styles ready to order.
No antistatic requirement, no energy-absorbing heel and no penetration-resistant midsole. Some SB styles add those as separate markings (A, E, P), and the product page lists any it carries.
Light warehousing, retail stockrooms, deliveries and visitors' footwear: places where the hazard is a dropped box or a pallet edge rather than nails, chemicals or standing water.
An SB shoe marked SBP has a penetration-resistant midsole, which puts it functionally close to S1P without the antistatic build. Check the marking on the product page rather than the name.

Under EN ISO 20345, every rating from S1 to S7 builds on SB. SB alone is the toecap plus the standard's baseline for materials, seam strength, sole bond and, since the 2022 edition, slip resistance. If your risk assessment names a hazard beyond falling objects, step up a rung: S1 for antistatic and heel cushioning, S1P for underfoot protection, S3 for wet ground. SB styles tend to be the lightest and cheapest certified footwear a brand makes, which is why they suit occasional wearers and visitors. Sizing is stated per style and varies by brand, so check the size and fit guide before ordering, and note that qualifying safety footwear bought by an individual for work use is sold VAT-free, explained on our VAT-free page.
