Each safety style states its EN ISO rating
Safety shoes give you a certified toe cap and a protective sole in a low-cut work shoe, without the height and weight of a boot. We hold 311 styles from Base Protection, Safety Jogger, Portwest, Amblers Safety, Titan and more, in steel and composite toe, across the S1P, S3 and S3S ratings. Every style states its rating on its own page, so you can match the shoe to the job before you buy.
Every safety shoe has a toe cap tested to 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression, the same standard as a safety boot. The rating on each product page tells you what is added on top: antistatic, energy absorption at the heel, a penetration-resistant midsole and water resistance.
Composite toe caps are metal-free and lighter, and pass cleanly through metal detectors. Steel toe caps sit slimmer over the toes and tend to cost a little less. Both meet the same 200 joule standard, so the choice comes down to weight and feel.
A safety shoe sits below the ankle, so it is lighter and cooler than a boot and easier to walk in all shift. It suits warehouse, logistics, engineering, retail stockroom and indoor trades where you need toe protection but not ankle support.
Base Protection and Safety Jogger make up most of the range, with Portwest, Amblers Safety, Titan and Beeswift alongside. That runs from value work shoes to slip-resistant, ESD and heat-resistant styles for specialist work.

Start with the rating. S1P gives a protective toe cap, an antistatic build, energy absorption at the heel and a penetration-resistant midsole, which is plenty for dry indoor work. S3 adds a water-resistant upper and a cleated outsole for wet floors and the odd trip outside. Under the 2022 standard, an S or L on the end (S3S, S3L, S1PS) means the anti-puncture midsole is non-metallic: S is tested against a finer 3 mm nail, L against a 4.5 mm nail, while plain S1P and S3 use a steel midsole. The rating is printed on each product page, so you can check it before you order.
Then think about where you work. On smooth or wet floors, look for the SR mark, the slip-resistance test under EN ISO 20345. For electronics and clean rooms, choose an ESD shoe. For hot surfaces, an HRO outsole resists contact heat. If you need ankle support or work on uneven ground, a safety boot is the better choice, and if you want a sportier feel, a safety trainer gives the same protection. Our safety boots and safety trainers cover those, and the safety ratings guide explains every marking.
Safety shoes run true to UK sizing for most brands. If you are between sizes, or wear thick work socks, the size and fit guide covers each brand.
