S5 is the wellington you want when the ground is both wet and unpredictable. It is moulded in one piece from rubber or polymer, so it is waterproof by construction, and it carries the full protection set: a 200 joule toecap, an antistatic build, an energy-absorbing heel, a penetration-resistant midsole and a cleated outsole. Agriculture, groundwork, utilities, concrete pours, flood work and winter sites all live here. Each style states its own rating on its page.
A fully moulded waterproof boot with a 200 joule toecap, antistatic build, energy-absorbing heel, penetration-resistant midsole and cleated outsole. We list 61 S5 styles ready to order.
Under the 2022 edition a non-metallic midsole is marked S5S (3 mm nail test) or S5L (4.5 mm nail test). Plain S5 is a steel insert. Same rating, different midsole material.
No seams, no membrane to fail. A moulded wellington is the only class in the standard that is waterproof by design rather than by a timed test.
Many S5 styles add cold insulation (CI) and a heat-resistant outsole (HRO). Neoprene-lined and PU boots hold warmth; rubber holds flexibility in cold. The product page lists each style's markings.

S5 does for wellingtons what S3 does for boots: it is the full package, and the default specification wherever a risk assessment mentions both water and sharp debris. If the floor is wet but clean, S4 saves weight. If you need a leather or textile boot rather than a welly, S7 is the equivalent rating. Our ratings guide explains how the two ladders line up.
Weight matters over a long shift: PU wellingtons can weigh roughly half what a rubber boot does, and the product page states the material and any insulation. Sizing is often whole sizes only; check the size and fit guide. Qualifying safety footwear bought by an individual for work use is sold VAT-free, explained on our VAT-free page.
